This is a very comprehensive book written by a western journalist detailing the history of the ruling Kim Dynasty throughout the years. While 'Under the Loving Care of the Fatherly Leader' is clearly an important contribution to the genre the superlatives regarding the book are overblown. The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), or North Korea, was established in its current form not long after WW2, when competing US/Soviet interests split the peninsula into two halves. But in the end it describes the cruel regime manufactured by the Soviet Union in the North under their puppet Kim Il-Sung and perpetuated to this day – well, till this past Sunday – by Kim's son, Jong-Il.
